ABOUT US
Meet Joey and Ruth: Champions for Underprivileged Youth
Joey and Ruth, two passionate and community-driven individuals, are the driving force behind the nonprofit organization Core 5 Sports, dedicated to empowering underprivileged children through competitive sports. As founders of the locally renowned Core 5 Flag Football league, Joey and Ruth have deep roots in the community in which they serve.
Their journey began with a shared vision of making a difference in the lives of local youngsters. Raising their four children in Arizona, they felt a strong sense of responsibility toward the community that was shaping their family’s everyday life. They began Core 5 Flag Football in 2016, which has growth to serve thousands of families in just seven years. Throughout this time, Joey and Ruth noticed a lack of opportunities for underprivileged children to engage in competitive sports, an experience they believed would instill valuable life skills and foster a sense of belonging in kids that likely need it most.
In response, they founded Core 5 Sports, a nonprofit organization committed to providing these children with access to sports programs that would otherwise be out of their reach. Their organization not only focuses on teaching the fundamentals of various sports but also emphasizes the importance of teamwork, discipline, and perseverance. Through Core 5 Sports, Joey and Ruth are breaking down barriers and opening doors for countless young athletes, enabling them to dream big and achieve their full potential.
Joey and Ruth’s tireless dedication, coupled with their unwavering belief in the power of sports to transform lives, has made Core 5 a beacon of hope for the underprivileged youth of Phoenix. Their story serves as an inspiration, reminding us all of the profound impact that compassion, determination, and a strong sense of community can have on the lives of others.
